How Peppol works

An invoice your customer's system can read

An e-invoice is the invoice as structured data, not a PDF. It travels over the Peppol network from your access point to your customer's, so it lands in their accounting system ready to approve and pay, without anyone typing it in.

  1. You click Send e-InvoiceOn any invoice or retainer invoice in Avaza
  2. Storecove prepares itStorecove, our certified Peppol access point partner, puts it in the format your customer's country uses
  3. Peppol finds your customerBy their identifier, such as a VAT number or ABN
  4. It lands in their systemAs invoice data, with a PDF copy attached
  5. Delivery confirmedThe invoice shows Sent, with the network's delivery evidence
Why e-invoice

Why teams send e-invoices

Ready when a client asks

More organisations, from government agencies to large companies, ask their suppliers to invoice over Peppol. Say yes without adding another tool.

Nothing to re-key

Your customer's system reads the invoice data directly, so line items, tax and totals arrive exactly as you sent them.

Proof of delivery

See when the network has delivered your invoice, and open the delivery evidence from the invoice's Activity History.

One connection, every participant

Reach any business registered on Peppol, whichever accounting software it uses.

The invoices you already send

Bill time, expenses and fixed amounts as usual, then choose Send e-Invoice instead of Send via Email.

Your PDF goes with it

A PDF copy of your branded invoice travels with the e-invoice data.

How it works

From registration to your first e-invoice

1. Register your business

  • Apply from Settings

Open Settings › Invoice & Bill Settings and complete the E-Invoicing Registration Form in the e-Invoicing section.

  • A business check

The form starts a Know Your Customer (KYC) verification, and the Avaza team gets in touch if they need anything more.

  • Switched on for you

Once the check is complete, the team registers your business on the network and emails you that e-invoicing is on.

2. Check your invoice settings

  • Your sender details

The Default Invoice/Billing Address and Country in Invoice & Bill Settings are the sender details on every e-invoice.

  • Tax categories

Give each tax an E-Invoice Category, such as standard, zero-rated or exempt, in Settings › Taxes.

  • Payment instructions

Add bank transfer or other payment details to your invoice template, and each e-invoice carries them.

3. Add your customers' identifiers

  • One identifier is enough

Enter a VAT number, an Australian ABN, a Belgian enterprise number or a German Leitweg-ID, depending on the customer's country.

  • A billing address

Each customer needs an address line, city and postcode.

  • Purchase order numbers

For customers who need one on every invoice, tick Require Purchase Order Numbers when sending Invoices.

4. Send and track

  • Send e-Invoice

Open the invoice, click Send e-Invoice, check the customer's identifier and click Send.

  • See what's missing

If the button is greyed out, hover over it to see which detail to add first.

  • Sending, then Sent

The invoice shows Sending until the network confirms delivery, then Sent, with the delivery evidence in its Activity History.

Belgium

Ready for e‑invoicing in Belgium

Since 1 January 2026, VAT-registered businesses in Belgium exchange structured e-invoices with each other over Peppol. Belgian teams register in Avaza like anywhere else, add their customers' enterprise or VAT numbers, and send e-invoices from the invoices they already create.

  • The network Belgium uses

Avaza sends over Peppol, the network for e-invoices between Belgian businesses.

  • Euro invoices with VAT categories

Invoice in euros and give each VAT rate its E-Invoice Category.

  • Your customers' Belgian identifiers

Add a customer's enterprise or VAT number once, and every e-invoice to them uses it.

Frequently asked questions

What is Peppol?

Peppol is an international network for exchanging business documents such as invoices. Each business connects through an access point, and one connection reaches every other business on the network, whichever software it uses. Avaza connects through Storecove, our certified Peppol access point partner.

Which countries can send e-invoices from Avaza?

Businesses in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. If your business is somewhere else, ask support@avaza.com before you apply: some countries need extensions to the standard e-invoice format, which Avaza doesn't support yet.

Which plans include e-invoicing?

e-Invoicing is included in every paid plan at no extra cost. Your business also needs to pass a verification (KYC) check before the Avaza team registers it on the network.

Do my customers need to be on Peppol?

Yes. To receive an e-invoice, your customer needs an identifier on the network, such as a VAT number or an ABN. Customers who aren't on Peppol get your invoices by email, as before.

Can I send recurring and retainer invoices as e-invoices?

Yes. Invoices and retainer invoices can both be sent as e-invoices. Recurring invoices and retainer subscriptions create their invoices on schedule as usual; open each one and click Send e-Invoice. Automatic sending is by email.

Can I send credit notes as e-invoices?

Not yet. Avaza sends invoices and retainer invoices as e-invoices.

Can Avaza receive e-invoices?

Not yet. Avaza sends e-invoices but doesn't receive them, so e-invoices from your suppliers aren't imported into Bills.

Does Avaza support e-invoicing in Belgium?

Yes. Avaza sends structured e-invoices over Peppol, the network Belgian businesses use with each other since 1 January 2026. Belgian businesses also need to be able to receive e-invoices, which Avaza doesn't do yet.

What does an e-invoice from Avaza contain?

Your line items with quantities, prices and tax categories, the totals, the purchase order number if there is one, the subject and notes, the payment instructions switched on in the invoice's template, and a PDF copy of the invoice.

What happens if delivery fails?

The invoice goes back to Draft. Check the customer's identifiers and details, then send it again. If it still fails, contact support@avaza.com with the invoice number.

What about the United States and DBNAlliance?

Avaza is also connected to DBNAlliance, the e-invoicing network in the United States, but e-invoicing isn't available for US businesses yet. Ask support@avaza.com if you'd like it.

How do I get started?

Open Settings › Invoice & Bill Settings and complete the E-Invoicing Registration Form. The setup guide walks through every step.
